GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Riteks RFL-1 – LT is a non-retarding low temperature fluid loss/ gas migration additive with particular applications in lightweight slurries. This additive is highly effective at exceptionally low loadings-- 0.5% or below-- in many slurry designs. It can also be used at 1% to 2.5% loadings in “latex cement” designs.

  • Improved bonding can be achieved with loadings as low as 0.2% bwoc
  • 0.4% bwoc can be utilized to stabilize foam cements
  • Some applications use Riteks RFL-1 – LT Cost Effective Fluid Loss as a hydrocarbon barrier
  • Riteks RFL-1 – LT Cost Effective Fluid Loss provides improvements with enhancing durability in cement, as well as improved bond strength and sheet bond strength for the life of the well
  • Improvement to cement flexural strength
  • Various density cements and long term isolation
  • Low density cement may be more advantageous than a high density cement, due to durability (flexural strength/shear bond strength)
  • Low density cement design is really useful in certain areas (Midland Basin) for concerns of ECDs and improving cement height

Recommendations

APPLICATIONS & BENEFITS
  • Typical loadings of Riteks RFL-1 – LT Cost Effective Fluid Loss are from 0.5% to 0.8% by weight of cement in normal or lightweight slurries
  • Pozzolan appears to enhance the performance of this additive
  • Riteks RFL-1 – LT Cost Effective Fluid Loss has almost no effect on slurry viscosity below about 140°F, and begins to thicken slurries slightly above that temperature
  • This property can aid in controlling free water, particularly in lighter designs
  • Riteks RCD-3 – Red Dispersant can be added if dispersant is needed
  • Riteks THIX-C2 – Alternative to SMS, Thixotropic, Suspender works well as an accelerator to this product
  • RCR-800 is the preferred retarder

Limitations
  • Riteks RFL-1 – LT Cost Effective Fluid Loss may lose some of its effectiveness in coarse grindcements such as neat API Class H or Class G
  • Salts have an adverse effect on fluid loss in some applicationsLignosulfonate Retarders are not preferred
  • Degradation of fluid loss numbers can be witnessed attemperatures >140°F
