RFL-9

LT/MT Retarding Fluid Loss
JUMP TO

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Riteks RFL-9 – LT/MT is a dispersing and retarding fluid loss additive designed for use across all API cement classes. This versatile additive delivers effective fluid loss control in primary, remedial, and squeeze cementing applications, with reliable performance at bottom hole circulating temperatures (BHCT) ranging from 60°F to 300°F (15.5°C to 149°C). Its dispersing nature helps lower Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD), alleviates surface equipment horsepower requirements, and works well in water-sensitive formations. Riteks RFL-9 – LT/MT  can also impart thixotropy to slurries containing certain synthetic retarders, providing additional design flexibility.

APPLICATIONS & BENEFITS

APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS & BENEFITS
Riteks RFL-9 – LT/MT Retarding Fluid Loss is suitable for a wide variety of cementing applications, including primary and remedial operations, where fluid loss control and dispersing properties are beneficial. It is especially useful in wells with water sensitive formations, in slurries requiring extended thickening times, or where lowering ECD is critical to avoid formation breakdown.

FEATURES & ADVANTAGES

APPLICATIONS & BENEFITS
  • Effective fluid loss control in primary, remedial, and squeeze cementing
  • Performs in BHCT conditions from 60°F to 300°F (15.5°C to 149°C)
  • Dispersing properties help lower ECD and reduce pump horsepower requirements
  • Can impart thixotropy with certain synthetic retarders
  • Lengthens Total Thickening Time (TTT), aiding in placement
  • Promotes improved bonding and cement sheath integrity
  • Can be dry blended in cement or pre-hydrated in mix water
  • Compatible with most suspension and viscosifying additives
  • Performs well in water-sensitive formations
  • Cost-effective, with typical concentrations <1% sufficient for fluid loss control

Recommendations

APPLICATIONS & BENEFITS
  • Temperature Range: 60°F to 300°F (15.5°C to 149°C) BHCT
  • Recommended Loading: 0.3% to 1.5% BWOC
  • <1% BWOC typically sufficient for fluid loss control
  • Dosage varies with temperature conditions
  • Water Requirements: Additional water (0.45 gal/sk or 1.7 L/sk) may be needed at concentrations >0.5% when bentonite is not present
  • Compatible with: All API cement classes; most suspension and viscosifying products
  • Not Recommended: For use in high salt concentrated slurries
  • Ideal for: Primary, remedial, and squeeze cementing requiring improved bonding, fluid loss control, and ECD management
